Saturday's loss to the Sunrisers means that this is very much a must win game for KXIP who are in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the table. With other teams picking up points around them, David Miller's side have just one win from five and it's not good enough.

We can say the same for Mumbai - they have two wins but have played a game more so points are vital in this one.

Prices are a little slow to come in with both teams having only just played but Mumbai are clear and obvious favourites at best odds of 1.57 with bet365 and William Hill leaving Kings XI as the outside punt at a best of 2.50 with Boylesports.

In a format of the game where anything can happen, it is tempting to look at the outsiders but they really need a huge improvement among their top order. Miller seems to be struggling with the burden of captaincy while Glenn Maxwell looks to be more of a luxury player - someone who will come off every six to eight innings or so.

Side bets are also a little slow and as I write this, only one bookmaker has declared in the top batsman markets but we'll start here and you can check elsewhere on the day of the game. As the only Kings XI batter to find any real form, Shaun Marsh is favourite to top score for his side on Monday and can be backed here at best odds of 3.60 with bet365. Murali Vijay is next on the list at a top price of 4.00 with bet365 while Manan Vohra is out at a best of 4.50 with bet365 again.

Meanwhile, Maxwell and Miller slip and can both be picked up at the same best odds of 6.00 with bet365. Either man can do it but they are so out of touch that this is a big gamble.

Mumbai Indians' version of this market is a little more clear cut with Rohit Sharma way out in front at a best price of 3.00 with bet365. Martin Guptill is listed at a best of 4.33 with bet365 but the Kiwi was left out against Delhi and we'll need to check if he makes the starting XI.

Parthiv Patel is on offer at best odds of 4.75 with bet365 and while Jos Buttler has been a little disappointing, he will convert at some point and looks a value pick here at a best price of 6.00 with bet365 once again.

Elsewhere there really isn't much to choose from but the most sixes market definitely has some extra value. Mumbai Indians are ahead here at their best price of 1.80 with bet365 but a major knock from Miller or Maxwell will see KXIP provide a nice return at best odds of 2.50 - also with bet365.

We've seen a couple of sides successfully defend winning totals but captains are still looking to insert after winning the toss. I would therefore maybe wait to see where the coin lands as I think it will be important to chase on this surface.

If pushed, I would go with Mumbai as they have a more consistent squad - even though they are struggling for points - and if Martin Guptill is fit and ready to play, the opener could make a difference. Overall this is much tougher than that result betting suggests but it's Mumbai for me along with some other side bets.

My Picks
  • Back Mumbai Indians to win at 1.57 with bet365.
  • Back Jos Buttler to top score for Mumbai Indians at 6.0 with bet365.
  • Back Kings XI Punjab to hit the most sixes at 2.50 with bet365.
