Ice Hockey World Cup 2016!
The Ice Hockey World Cup 2016 is an International Ice Hockey Event. This is the third edition of the world cup in the history of Ice Hockey so far.
About Ice Hockey?
Ice Hockey is a contact sport played on an Ice Hockey court, which is also known as the Hockey rink. The size of the rink is a fixed 61 metres(200 ft) × 30.5 metres(100 ft), having a corner radius of 8.5 metres(28 ft).
A team of 6 players play from each team including the goalkeeper (called goaltender in this sport). 5 players skate over the ice trying to put the puck into the goal of the opposing team. Ice hockey is one of the most popular sports in USA and Canada, along with some countries of Europe. NHL (National Hockey League) is the most popular Ice Hockey League.
History of Ice Hockey World Cup:
The first edition of the Ice Hockey World Cup was in 1996, played between 8 teams and won by the United States. A total of 19 matches were played and 140 goals scored; Brett Hull was the lead scorer with 11 points. The Canada Cup was the tournament replaced to start the Ice Hockey World Cup.
In 2004, NHL sanctioned this event and the second edition of the Ice Hockey World Cup was played 8 years later. Eight teams played at seven different venues. Canada was crowned as the 2004 champions as they defeated Finland in the finals held in Toronto. Fredrik Modin was the lead scorer with 8 points throughout the tournament. Because of the NHL lockout in 2004-05, NHL suspended the Ice Hockey World Cup.
Now, after 12 years, third edition of the Ice Hockey World Cup will be played in Canada.
Teams and Venues:
There will be a total of 8 participating teams in the 2016 Ice Hockey World Cup - Canada(Host), United States, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Europe and North America. Canada and United States have won one world cup title each. Team North America has almost all young players under the age of 23; the team competes representing players 23-and-under from Canada and the United States.
This time all matches will be played at a single venue - Air Canada Center, situated in Toronto, Ontario. The center has a capacity of 18,819, and 20,511 along with standing room.
Groups and Schedule - Ice Hockey World Cup:
There are two groups!
In Group A, there are four teams which include Canada, Czech Republic, Europe and United States. Canada and United States are India Bet's favourites to top the group stage and reach the semi finals.
In Group B, there are four teams which include Finland, North America, Russia and Sweden. Russia and Sweden are India Bet's favourites to top the group stage and reach the semi finals.

- 19th September: Czech Republic v Europe
- 20th September: Canada v United States
- 21st September: Canada v Europe
- 22nd September: Czech Republic v United States

- 18th September: Russia v Sweden
- 18th September: Finland v North America
- 19th September: North America v Russia

Knockout Stage Schedule:
- 24th September: Semi Final 1: Winner Group A v Runner-up Group B
- 25th September: Semi Finals: Winner Group B v Runner-up Group A
In the semi finals, the winner of group A will play with the runner up of group B, while winner of group B will play with runner up of group A!
