It was once again Indian captain MS Dhoni who won the toss and elected to bowl first. Indian team remained unchanged, while New Zealand made three changes in their side Boult, Henry and Devcich in for Bracewell, Neesham and Sodhi.
After Martin Guptill getting out on second delivery of the match, New Zealand had a firm partnership of 120 runs for the second wicket between Williamson and Latham. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson lead his team in first Innings scoring 118 runs from 128 balls including 14 fours and a six. Jasprit Bumrah and Amit Mishra both took 3 wickets each. New Zealand scored 242 runs for the lost of 9 wickets.
Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma opened the Innings for India. Within first 20 overs, Indian top order collapsed losing promising player like Rohit, Virat, Rahane and Pandey. MS Dhoni and Kedhar Jadhav were looking to build Innings but it did not last long, as Kedhar Jadhav lost his wicket in 32nd over. After MS Dhoni getting out for 39 runs, Hardhik Pandya was trying hard to reach the target. Hardik Pandya was caught by Santner in second last over and India got all out for 262 runs. Tim Southee took 3 wickets while Boult and Guptill picked up two each.
Result: New Zealand won by 6 runs and levels the ODI series 1-1!
