Kolkata Racecourse is located in the Hastings district of Kolkata. It can be accessed from State Highway 1 and the nearest train station is Hastings.
The racecourse is one of the oldest in India, dating back to 1820, when it was first built. It now has a vast grandstand and an enthusiastic following. On race days the course and especially the grandstand area are very full.
Racing happens between July and September and then again between November and March. Racing is usually held on a Saturday, however it is worth checking fixture lists as race days are occasionally changed.
The Chairman and Senior Steward of the course is Mr Deepak Khaitan. The course hosts a number of high class races, highlighted by the Grade 1 Calcutta Derby which usually takes place on the second weekend of January.
