Mysore racecourse is located next to Mysore Zoo and can be accessed from the Kozhikode-Mysore-Kollegal Highway, which is locally known as the Racecourse Road.

It is set in the foothills of the beautiful Chamundi Hills, which provide a stunning backdrop to the racecourse. The course was built in 1920 and is a track of 200m, although more recently an inner sand track has been added as well.

This sand track has seen an extension to the racing calendar. Traditionally, racing only occurred in Mysore between August and October, however, since the introduction of the ineer track, there is now racing all year round.

Racing mainly occurs on a Thusday and Friday, however, often there is racing on other days of the week as well, so it is worth keeping an eye out for changes to the fixture list. The main race of the year is the Poonawalla Mysore Derby, which is a Grade One race and pulls in huge crowds to the race track.

The racecourse Chairman and Senior Steward is Mr K. A. Muddappa. The grand stand has been recently refurbished and there are a number of bars and restaurants at the course.

There is racing every Wednesday at Mysore Racecourse, further details on August-October dates will be published soon.
